Ski Joring Competitions
Another sport that has caught our interest this year is cowboy mounted shooting. Mounted contestants compete in this fast action timed event using two .45 single action revolvers each loaded with five rounds of specially prepared blank ammunition. Courses of fire are set in a variety of patterns. The first 5 targets, balloons, will be set in a pattern that requires the horse and rider to stop, turn, change leads and accelerate rapidly. The second 5 targets, called the "run down", are in a straight line with targets set at 36 foot intervals.
Typically, a competitor crosses the start line and shoots the first five targets, holsters the empty revolver and proceeds around a barrel at the far end of the arena wile drawing their second revolver. They then engage the last five targets on the rundown at full speed.
The New Hampshire Cowboy Mounted Shooters have competitions throughout the state and you get more information on thier website http://www.nhcowboymountedshooters.com

December
December 13th is National Day of the Horse. This day is to remind us that the horse is a living link to the history of the United States and that horses continue to permeate the society of the United States, as witnessed on movie screens, on open land, and in our own backyards, that wild and domestic horses rely on humans for adequate food, water, and shelter, and that horses are a vital part of the collective experience of the United States and deserve protection and compassion.
